So that was 2024

This has been a difficult year, a strange year, personal tragedies have affected my family we have seen in America and Britain bigoted idiotic sadists elected into office that are bent on genocide. Things are grim. Things are tough and they are going to get worse. My own fragile oasis of a life may get more difficult as I have high blood pressure and so the coming year will require me to change my lifestyle.

It feels odd to place the prospect of exercise against the ongoing genocide and oppression of trans people and Palestinians but the nature of living in a time of great tragedy and upheaval is that we do still have to live. Trans kids still play video games and go to school despite the actions of Wes Streeting and the demon terfs. Palestinians still have to pass the time between attempts on their lives. And yes fat Brits still have to look at their lifestyles despite the ongoing horrors in the world.

I also can’t look at the year that has happened without acknowledging the hope that I now see. Maybe I’m just in my own leftist echo chamber - I acknowledge that - but it truly feels as if in Britain and America the public is beginning to see that the political status quo is not workable. What is the point of a centrist compromise cadidate when they fail? What is the point of a centrist compromise candidate that commits genocide? It’s hard to argue the centrist defense of “Vote for us or the other side will get in” when the comprise candidate is a genocidal failure. It’s hard to argue “Vote for us or the other side will get in” when people across the political spectrum are cheering on a conservative that committed cold blooded murder just because the victim deserved it. If the people will cheer on a conservative killer they’ll vote for a leftwing third party.

Maybe that’s too optimistic of me but it truly feels like since the invention of the internet the electorate has started to gain a political memory in a way it didn’t before and that the flaws of centrists and conservatives are being seen for what they are. If there is hope it’s that people are waking up to the state of the world and they are willing to support things the establishment does not approve of.

Maybe in 50 years time there’ll be a centrist Clinton as the Democratic President and maybe in 50 years time Labour will still be the largest leftwing party and ruled by ghouls like Starmer and Streeting but I doubt it. The centrists have said for decades “Vote for us, we aren’t like those bigots” and now the left has seen that the centrists are genocidal monsters that deserve to be vanquished just as badly as the GOP and the Tories.

Oh and by the way I’m non-binary now. I’m still Alex and I still use he/him pronouns for the moment but also They/them and I wear dresses. I am accepting of who I am. Anyway go look at my writing and see what you think.
